Step by Step Guide to Install a WordPress for Beginners

WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems that is used by majority of the bloggers around the world. WordPress is not only easy to use as compared to other CMS but the other benefit of using it includes widely available free plugins, themes and ease of customization. Installing WordPress using FTP is pretty easy and the fastest way. In order to install WordPress manually you should have the latest version of WordPress, which you can download from and FTP software of your choice to upload the files into the web directory.

Step 1: Download and unzip WordPress

Go to and download the latest version of WordPress. Unzip it on your computer after which you will be able to see a file named wp-config-sample.php rename it to wp-config.php

Step 2: Create a Database

Log into cPanel using the information provided to you by the hosting service provider and go to databases section. Click on the MySQL Databases.

Create a user for your database and select a password for it, make sure the password you are selecting shall be very strong.

Step 3: Editing the WP-Config.PHP file

Go back to the WordPress files which you’ve unzipped earlier, open the file wp-config.php using notepad and replace database information with the one you’ve just created.

Step 4: Location of Installation

To install WordPress on root level (main domain) i.e. you need to upload all the unzipped files at /public_html/ but if you wish to keep it on a directory level such as then install it in /public_html/your desired directory name/ (make sure the directory name shouldn’t have any spaces rather use either -or _” to separate words.

Step 5: Running WordPress Installation Script

Go to the browser and run WordPress installation script by access the URL, where you’ve uploaded the WordPress files i.e. or . Click on “Run the Install” button.

Set up the username and password for the admin account, give admin email id and insert in a nice title for your blog. Make sure to choose a strong password for your admin account, it’s always recommended not to choose admin as a username.

If you don’t want search engines to get access to and index your site the box given in front of privacy and click install WordPress.

Now you will get a success message from WordPress where you will be able to see a login button at the end of the screen click on it to log into the dashboard area or directly access
